According to legend, the ability to shape-shift can come from a family curse, a bite or scratch from a werewolf, or even drinking water from the pawprint of a wolf. Many believed the horrifying transformation from human to werewolf only occurred during a full moon or on Halloween night when the veils between worlds are thin.
