This\ninformation is usually contained in a medical record and was gathered in a\nHIPAA-covered entity such as a physician\u2019s clinic. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main purpose of\nthe Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act is to protect the\nprivacy and security of an individual\u2019s PHI while providing covered entities\nwith standards meant to raise efficiencies in the healthcare field that\nultimately improve the quality of patient care.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Healthcare entities\nshould provide full HIPAA training for all employees, implement safeguards, and\ndesignate regular refresher courses to help ensure rules are not forgotten.\nStaying HIPAA compliant is often stressful and confusing for healthcare\nproviders and their associates. One of the best ways to relieve some of that\nstress and reduce the risk of violations is to have a clear understanding of\nthe HIPAA Rules.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We would like to share a blog post with you that does a great job at clearing up some of the most popular HIPAA myths and misconceptions, written by Loretta (Duncan) Maddox, MS, FACMPE, CHC.
